History
The concept of a motorsports facility on the Fraser Coast extends back to the early 90s when local motorsports enthusiasts David Dalgleish and Darren Goddard as well as a group of other like minded enthusiasts raised the idea of a motorsports facility for the region.
Over the years many forces have worked against this idea and many of those who have had big plans have come and gone.
In mid 2005, Maryborough local Ben Collingwood sat down with the then General Manager of the Fraser Coast Chronicle Mr Steve Molineaux seeking ideas as to how to reinvigorate the concept and bring it to life. Mr Molineaux voiced his support for the concept and suggested he contact Bob Hockey from Queensland State Development.
In the following months, Ben and Bob met on numerous occasions discussing ideas and finally agreeing on the need to compile a group of local and state government representatives and business leaders to professionally promote the concept and finally realise the dream. Subsequently Fraser Coast Motorpark Inc was formed to drive the concept through to a positive result.
In early 2006 this newly formed group invited Gary Miocevich from QUIT Motorplex in Perth to meet with the group and assess the situation and provide feedback and advice as to how to proceed. This visit was supported by local councils and provided valuable information to assist the group with gaining a direction to move the project forward rapidly.
In August 2006 Fraser Coast Motorpark Inc called for tenders from suitable organisations to produce a master Plan and Business Case for the Motorpark. This process was finalised in late 2008 and the findings are currently being reviewed by stakeholders.
Today the group is represented by Ben Collingwood (Chairman), Darren Goddard (Treasurer), Russell Greaves (Synforce Lubricants), Bob Hockey (DEEDI), Andrew Jackson (FCRC), Anat McDonald (Prince Driving School), Paul Sparke (Secretary) & Peter Walters (Bob Jane T-Marts - Hervey Bay).
